New Obsession - Dalecarlian Horse

It was in the small log cabins deep in the forests during the long winter nights in front of a log fire that the forerunner of the dala horse was born. Using simple tools, generally only a knife, woodcarvers made toys for their children. It was only natural that many of these toys were horses, because the horse was invaluable in those days—a trusty friend and worker who could pull great loads of timber from the forests during the winter months, and in the summer could be of just as much use on the farm.

Hello sweet Dalecarlian / Dala Horse (Or in Swedish, you are named Dalahäst...) I love you sooo much!

This little obsession started when Christian and I were looking at Thomas Sabo charms at Southland last week. We saw this new charm, which was a little red horse, who looked a bit like a pinata. I named him "party horse" for this very reason... Anyway, I didn't get him, but I became curious as to what he actually was. The lady behind the counter thought maybe he was a carousel horse, but he looked different to us.

Then, early this morning, Christian was looking online and found the beautiful horsey in all his glory! He is Swedish and you can read about him here.

I absolutely love this little guy.. The world's largest Dalecarlian Horse, made of concrete and located in Avesta Municipality, Sweden!!!

Sweden also gave a giant one to Minnesota, so you can find him all over the place!

Freaking awesome!!! I love him.. :) I think I will start collecting him!!!!
